If you want to avoid the whole shuttle and multiple car deal (i.e. if you have someone who can meet you at the end of the race and take you home after the festivities), it's super easy to get to the race start via a quick bus ride up the hill from Berekeley BART on the 65 or 67 bus -- dropped off at Euclid and Grizzly or Spruce and Grizzly, its quick walk or jog down Canon Street to Lone Oak. And the buses get there early enough on Saturday morning to make it a perfect option.
