not specifically about the race but...
The markers on the trails at OMSP are supposed to be .25 miles apart. Is this possibly from miles wheeled on a map before GPS use was widespread? Per the official park site and others, the yellow trail is around 8 miles long, but it only runs from marker 59 to 86 (27/4 = 6.75)??? Are the distances for the Oak Mountain 50k based on the mile markers or the measured length? Anyone know whats up with the discrepancy? Thanks!

You may find an answer with the bike club B.U.M.P

Joe - I have run this race 7 times and the 6.75 miles is (generally) correct. The 8 miles is if you continue to run across the road and up to the Camp store (which is NOT part of the race), which is still part of the Yellow Trail
