    Ok, so I have had the thrill of watching Vol Staters pass thru my town for the last few years - I want to join the fun! Can someone explain aided vs. un-aided?

      aided runners have a crew to provide food and drink, as well as rides to and from motels, etc.

      unaided runners are left to their own devices.
      they have only what they can carry or find for themselves along the way (in addition to what is given them by road angels). they are not allowed to get in a vehicle of any kind between leaving the ferry, and touching the rock.
