With gorgeous views of the Sound, varied terrain (rolling trails, steep stairs, a section or two that might generously be called “flat”), and a festive atmosphere, we think this is a race you (and your family, and friends, and well-behaved, leashed dogs) will just keep coming back to – one 1.93-mile (or .54 mile, in the last hour) lap at a time. Run for twelve hours, run for six. Run as few or as many hours as you like.
Our races are also low-impact: you won’t find any paper products at Carkeek, and we support local businesses (as much aid as possible will come from the Seattle area). Speaking of aid, we'll have some of the best aid out there. We'll be partnering with local and like-minded businesses (full list coming soon!) to bring you awesome snacks, and we'll have great prizes to raffle off throughout the day as well. We also provide re-usable mugs for you to use throughout the day, though if you have a favorite coffee mug, you're of course welcome to bring your own.
Carkeek's run on a counter-clockwise, 1.93-mile loop in Seattle's Carkeek Park, with an additional .54-mile loop open for the last hour (to give you more distance options). You're welcome to run as few or as many loops as you like, but here's what to expect on each loop: steep stairs, rolling trails, gorgeous vistas, loads of single-track, lots of up and lots of down. Each loop contains 436' of vertical gain, so expect to (have fun, yes!, and) be challenged.
Start & finish beside Puget Sound, in Carkeek Park. For the 12-Hour Run, gates to the park open at 5 am, check-in starts at 5:15 and the run begins at 6. For the 6-Hour Run, check-in starts at 11:15 and the run begins at noon. For both races, expect pre-race announcements just a few minutes before the start. Both races finish at 6 pm - any laps finished after that time will not be counted toward your day's total.
In addition to being tough and incredibly scenic, this race is also meant, in its entirety, to be FUN. And, as it's happening this year the Saturday after Halloween, we're encouraging runners [as we do every year!] to bring their Halloween costumes for a lap or two or twenty.
In fact, we'll be offering additional raffle tickets for costumed running, and will be setting aside specific raffle prize drawings for people who rock costumes for at least one of their laps throughout the day. [If you want to rock your costume(s) for every single lap for 12 [or 6] hours? We'll support you in that endeavor 100%.] There will also be prizes for pets in costumes, and for best overall costume.
[And don't worry: If costumed running isn't really your thing, we promise you'll see love (laughing at people running in costume, yes! and) fall miles at Carkeek with a group of kind, like-minded crazies.]
