This Event Took Place Sat. Feb 16, 2008

Description

The Orcas Island 25k (and its sister race, the Orcas Island 50k) is quite unique in the trail running world. The course alone makes this race special - old-growth forests, tough climbs, and spectacular views of surrounding islands, mountains, and Puget Sound - but what truly sets it apart is the sense of community. With live music, great post-race food and beer, and a chance to hang out all weekend on a gorgeous island with tough, scenic trails and great friends, these are the kind of races that set Rainshadow apart from the rest and leave you wondering: Why run anywhere else?

Race Location

Camp Moran State Park. Eastsound. Orcas Island in the San Juan islands. For more information, and directions off the ferry, please visit the Orcas Island 25k page of our website.

Course

After changes nearly every year, we've found a classic. With 4450 feet of elevation gain, this course will make you work. We'll have two aid stations to help you through, (mile 5.6, at North Arch, and 10.7, at the summit of Mt. Constitution - the highest point in the San Juans!), and far more spectacular views along the way. Cut-offs will be strictly enforced at three places: North Arch at 11 am, Mt. Constitution summit at 1:30 pm, and at the Finish at 3 pm. If a runner does not make it to these locations before these cut-off times, they may be removed from the race for their safety, the safety of our volunteers, and to keep the race on schedule for our permits and plans.

You can find course maps, course descriptions, and elevation profiles, as well as a detailed course description, on the Orcas Island 25k page of our website. Like all Rainshadow courses, the 25k course will be well-marked, but please study the maps and print them out and bring them with you if you'll need them on race-day.
