Description

Join us for the fifth annual Ghost Train Rail Trail Race to run 15 miles along the Brookline and Milford rail trail from Lake Potanipo to the Milford DPW. Race along the old railroad tracks that were used in the late 19th and early 20th century to ship granite from Milford and ice from Lake Potanipo to Massachusetts. The rails themselves were removed for scrap metal during World War II, but many of the railroad ties are still in the ground and can be seen on the trail.

The trail itself is mostly straight, flat, and pretty well groomed. The race will consist of one 7.5 mile out and back (for 15 total miles.) The trail is very well marked and easy to follow. Since the trails are open to the public year round, feel free to preview the course at any time (Scabbard Hill road to North Mason road run along route 13).

For the third year running, there is also an ultra race. Starting on Saturday morning, the race will consist of as many 15 mile out and backs as you wish. If you are still out there come 8:00am the following day, you will be running alongside the 15 mile race. Note that this race is New Hampshire's one and only 100 mile race, and is only one of two ultras in the Granite State! 

New for this year we are a part of the Trail Animal Running Club (TARC) Trail Race Series. Check it out at: http://www.trailanimals.com/downloads/. Expect to see some Trail Animals at the ultra race. There might even be a bigfoot sighting...  

This goal of this race is bring new trail runners into the sport with a friendly atmosphere and a beginner's trail.  At the same time, we are raising money for the Brookline and Milford Conservation Commissions to support the upkeep and expansion of this trail.
