Due to severe weather conditions, we have made the painful decision to postpone tonight's race at Waverly until tomorrow. Generally trail races are run in whatever conditions are graciously provided. However, a line must be drawn when runner safety is at issue. It was a very difficult decision, due to its impact on people's schedules, etc. but in the end it was the only way to go.
We apologize for the rather late decision, but we wanted to get it right. So we had our head stuck in the replay booth for awhile. Seriously, yesterday we had some conflicting forecasts, but this morning they are unanimous and the risk is obvious. Given the real potential for gusts of 50+, the risk of falling limbs is just too great.
The race will be run Friday night, 8PM. The weather is forecast to be about 60 degrees, under a mostly clear sky. Should be a perfect night for a run. If you have friends who couldn't run due to kids' trick-or-treat, invite them out Friday!
It's 6.66 miles.
What more is there to say?
Okay, chili cookoff after. Bring your best chili! And your appetite!
Okay, big campfire.
Okay, awards for best/scariest costumes.
And Lots of really cool folks who love running and trails. and darkness. and Halloween!
It's our biggest and most favoritest event of the year!
BTW, the count is limited to 100. There are neighborhoods close by, it is late, and it is a "school night." So the parks folks understandably don't want us to get out of hand.
Anyway, you might want to sign up early for this one.
