The Sweltering Summer Ultra and Marathon will be run on a USATF Certified dirt and cinder track that surrounds Clapp Park (.355 miles in length). Racers will start counter-clockwise, switching directions at the 4-hour mark, and are permitted to run the width of the track. Under no circumstances is a runner allowed to run on the inside grass surface, however running on the grass along the outside of the course is permitted. Each runner will have individual aid station space on tables as well as a communal aid station area. Additionally, runners may choose to set up their own personal areas along the hill adjacent to the parking lot. Course is in a city park and will be open to the public. Each loop will be rounded to a distance of .355 miles. USATF Certification: MA13008JK.
Last year, Sweltering Summer supported The Water Project, a non-profit organization seeking to provide sustainable drinking water to Africans in need. For 2014, Race Director Benn Griffin hopes to use funds to make donations to the Heifer Project, the Elizabeth Freemen Center, and the Berkshire Lightning Running Group, which seeks to get middle school girls running together for fun.
Note: If choosing the Marathon option - runners will have 8 hours to complete the 74 laps. Runners that do not complete 74 laps, will be listed in the Ultra Results listing instead.
