Come join us at BRANDY Creek beach, WHISKEYtown Park, under a FULL MOON, for the first annual Moonshine Trail Race! The 5K and 15K will finish before it gets really dark (10PM) but the 25K runners will "start in the light, finish at night". The races get harder as the distances get longer so choose accordingly.
And while you are running, your friends and family will not be bored as they enjoy the beauty and opportunites at Brandy Creek Beach.
The 5K is pretty easy, mostly gentle uphill for the first half and downhill for the second. Up the Brandy Creek trail to the Brandy Creek Campground, then back on the road.
15K has a big slog of a climb (1.5 miles) in the middle followed by a steep descent, the rest of the course is moderate. Head east on the Davis Gulch trail ( approx 4 miles gently rolling along the lake), then climb up and up the very steep Monarch Mountain Trail (1200' climb). The last 3+ miles are almost all downhill. One aid station. Carry a water bottle. You should be able to finish before dark (around 9:45PM, but take a flashlight if you aren’t sure.
The 25K is the tough one: Up the Brandy Creek trail toward Brandy Creek Falls, then up and down the Rich Gulch trail, up and over the gnarly Salt Gulch trail, northwest on the Peltier trail to Peltier Valley Road, west to Panther Gap, down the steep but scenic Monarch Mountain trail and home along the shoreline via the Davis Gulch trail. Carry a water bottle. Two aid stations. Flashlight required, you must get to the east end of the Davis Gulch trail (approx 4 miles to go) by 11PM or you will not be allowed to continue. Start in the light, finish at night! A great opportunity to sample night running!
