The Short Race

_Short Race:  This race is about 4 miles in length and has a minimal amount of elevation gain and relatively easy trails to run.  The course circles Tranquility Lake, the Old Lake and heads over to Maggie's Glen then to the red bike road.  From there you head down the hill to the North Trail Head and the aid station.  Leave the aid station on the White Trail back to Maggie's Glen and switch to the Yellow and follow it back around Tranquility Lake to the Finish.  If you plan to eat lunch, you will have to hang around a while.

The Middle Distance

_The Middle Distance:  This race is 8.15 miles and has just a bit of climbing.  Start down the Yellow Trail headed for the South end of the park.  At the Red Bike Road, switch over to the Yellow/White Connector and head straight to the top of the West Ridge of Double Oak Mtn.  At the White Trail (On the top of the ridge) turn LEFT.  Don't blindly follow the runner in front of you because this is where the 8 mile and 14 mile races split. Follow the White Trail over Shackleford Point and continue along the ridge to the Orange trail.  Make a sharp right over to the Red Bike Road, turn left again and head down the hill to the North Trail Head.  Grab a little water and a snack before taking the White Trail over to Maggie's Glen then the Yellow Trail around Tranquility Lake and back to the Finish.

The Long Race

_The Long Race:  This one is going to be fun.  The 14.35 mile course starts out the same as the 8 mile race.  Follow the Yellow trail heading for the South end of the park.  At the Red Bike Road, switch to the Yellow/White connector and climb to the top of the West Ridge of Double Oak Mtn.  Watch the signs and turn RIGHT at the white trail on top of the ridge.  Don't blindly follow the runner in front of you because this is where the 8 mile and 14 mile races split.  Continue down the White Trail about 150 ft. to the Red Bike Road and angle right staying on the Red Road all the way to the aid station set up at the Green Trail.  Fill up with water here because it is close to 9 miles to the next aid station over some very difficult terrain.  After the AS take the Green Trail up to the ridge crest and follow it back to the Green/White connector and turn left down the hill on a very steep descent to the White Trail.  Go right a few 100 yards to the foot bridge over Upper Peavine Creek and follow the flagging down to the creek below the falls.  Cross over Peavine Creek under the falls (You may take that literally if you like - It will likely be very hot) and go down the other side of the creek following flags to another creek crossing and climb back out of the gorge to the Blue Trail.  Take the Blue Trail 4.5 miles to the North end of the park to the sign showing the way to the North Trail Head.  Don't turn left down the hill. Go straight around the cables and run back about 1/2 mile to the "Kings Chair" overlook.  Punch your number with the hole punch attached to the small tree next to the overlook, turnaround and head back to the cables across the Blue Trail.  Turn right and go down the mountain about 1/2 mile to the climb up to Eagle's Nest Overlook.  Climb up the hill to the overlook then on up to the top of the ridge and again punch your number with the hole punch attached to a tree.  Head back down the steep hill to the Blue trail again and go right for about 150 yards to the Red/Blue Connector.  Turn left down to the Red Bike Road where you turn right to the North Trail Head aid station.  From there take the White Trail over to Maggie's Glen, then follow the Yellow trail round Tranquility Lake back to the finish.  That's it!
