Race Day Details
HtH D2D will start precisely at 8:02 p.m. Saturday evening. Packet pick up and check in will officially be from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., but we will be at the start/finish shelter earlier if anyone wants to avoid the rush and check in early. At 7:45 p.m. we will have drawings for two entries to LUR's Bobcat Bait 50M/50K that will be held on September 17, 2016. I will also give pre-race instructions and answer any questions that you may have at 7:50.
Good luck everyone. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the race.
This year's HtH D2D will be run in the Northlake Nature Center in Mandeville, Louisiana. Parking and the start of the race will be in Pelican Park in Mandeville. The entrance to Pelican Park is approximately half a mile east of the Nature Center on Highway 190.
Local time: 1:18 AM
Since it's mid-summer in South Louisiana, expect hot temperatures and high humidity. The course will be a two mile loop consisting primarily of single and double track trails. There will be one fully stocked aid station at the start/finish pavilion with ice water, coke, mountain dew, ginger ale and traditional aid station food items. Heed sports drink will also be available, courtesy of Hammer Nutrition. Blister and chaffing protection products will be on hand courtesy of Trail Toes.
Runners that register more than two weeks prior to race date will receive a high quality cotton blend t-shirt. To receive the T-Shirt you must register no later than June 30, 2016. Runners that complete 32 or more miles will receive a diner quality LUR Mug. The registration fee is nonrefundable.
This race is perfect for any runner that wants to acquire night time trail running experience. We will start running precisely at dusk, 8:02 p.m., on July 16 and run until dawn, 5:59:59 a.m., the following morning. You will have ten hours to run as many miles as you want or as many miles as you can. But, be warned, any miles ran during a lap that is completed after the clock hits 6:00 a.m. on July 17 will NOT be counted.
Don't worry about getting lost in the dark. It will not happen. The course will be well marked (excessively marked may be more correct) with flags containing DOTD approved reflective tape and will be like running down an airport runway at night.
For runners coming in from out of town, there are numerous hotels (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Best Western, La Quinta, etc.) in Covington, Louisiana that are within twenty minutes of the Northlake Nature Center. If you prefer camping, Fontainebleau State Park is also less than half a mile from the start of the race and offers camping facilities that accommodate both RV's and tents.
LUR encourages any runner looking for a long distance training run as a final preparation for Hotter than Hell, Dusk to Dawn to also register and run the Hotter Than Hell Marathon in New Orleans Audubon Park on July 2. While the marathon is run on an asphalt course, the temperatures and humidity will closely mimic the high heat and humidity that you will encounter at Dusk to Dawn. The Hotter than Hell Marathon is a non-profit organization that contributes any money you donate to Race MD to finance research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. In exchange for your donation, Hotter than Hell will provide you with their race t-shirt, fluids and nutritional items throughout the night. The link for registering is: www.RaceMd.com
