OK. Here's the latest from inside my head. The 5K will be a 5K. There will be a third distance of 4.5 miles. The long course, advertised as 8 miles, will actually be 9 miles with lots of vertical. Be advised, this 9 mile course will have several sections of steep climbing and descending! There also some rocky technical sections as well. Hopefully the rain will hold off until we are finished tomorrow. Be sure to check in when you arrrive tomorrow and confirm which distance you will be attempting, I mean running!
This run is part of a series. Cost is $20, $10 for students. The student rate is reserved for those 25y/o or younger who are actively enrolled in school full time, middle school to college. Patagonia midweight long sleeve technical event shirt can be purchased separately. Event shirts will not be available for purchase after February 29th so please order a shirt before that date if you want to ensure getting one. Registration prior to the run can be done on ultrasignup.com. Race registration is available but there is a $5 procrastination fee for all on site last minute registration making it $25/ runner, $15 for students. Event day registration is cash or card only. Sorry no checks. Thanks for your understanding. Minors who register race day must have a parent or guardian present to sign participant waiver and release of liability, assumption of risk and indemnity agreement.
The 5K I am considering extending just a bit so that those runners can experience some more of the trail network in this area. It shouldn't be longer than 4 miles. I know , I know, you don't trust my sense of distance but I will honestly try and keep it 4 miles or less. Hope to get out there again this week and accurately measure with my new Epson Runsense 810 the add on loop I am thinking of. The 10K+ will be somewhere between 7-9 miles. I am thinking of making it as challenging as I can because I know all of you are planning on doing the Half Marathon Triple Trail Challenge starting with Carson Canyons-right! We will have to see what trail conditions are like race morning and improvise as usual. Lots of predicted precipitation coming our way. Both courses will have a mix of double and single track trails, mud, rocks, loose scree and possibly some freelancing! There will be several technical areas on this course. Both runs start at 9AM.
This is the fifth and last run of 5 trail runs in the 7th Annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series presented by Ascent Runs. These casual runs were created to keep runners and walker motivated through the winter months and also as a way to supplement your winter training. This series highlights the extensive trail networks surrounding Carson City, NV. There are no aid stations out on the courses so be prepared to carry your own water or sports drink. For the safety of all runners and to keep you guessing, event organizers reserve the right to change course routes and distances based on weather conditions or just for the heck of it. This series is a great trainer for the Triple Trail Challenge- Spring Edition. The Triple Trail Challenge includes Carson Canyons Half Marathon on April 2, 2016, Escape From Prison Hill(EFPH) Half Marathon on April 23, and the Silver State Half Marathon on May 21.
Long Ranch Park, Carson City, NV.
Runs start at 9AM
No awards. Just the sweet satisfaction that you overcame the urge to sleep in on a cold winter morning and to go out and burn off some calories that were feeling way to at home.
Bibs and shirts can be picked up the morning of the run. All runners, including returning series runners, must check in prior to the start of the run. This is to ensure that we have an accurate head count to who is out there. Thank you.
Looks like it will be wet and muddy with ideal running temps!
