What is FANS

The FANS 6•12•24 Hour Race supports the FANS Scholarship Fund. FANS, which stands for Furthering Achievement through a Network of Support, is a program of Pillsbury United Communities (PUC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. PUC initiated the FANS project in 1989 with a group of sixth-grade students from North and South Minneapolis. The Project has a vision of sending inner-city kids to college or to another post-secondary institution. FANS works with the youth and their families in a wide variety of activities geared to providing support for the vision.

Participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $250 in pledges in lieu of paying an entry fee.  Pledge sheets can be found on our website and exchanged for your race number at packet pick-up.

The Course

Our new home in Fort Snelling State Park offers asphalt and packed gravel surfaces, plenty of shaded sections, and a distinct risk of encounters with the native deer population.  The loop is approximately 2.2 miles around Lake Snelling, with one gradual incline rising about 20 feet and USATF certification MN13004RR.  We'll have two aid stations and a two-room tent available to stash bags and change clothes for those not wanting to deal with a tent of their own.

The average high and low temperatures for race weekend are 76° and 56°F; record high 103°F in 2011, record low 35°F in 1998. Sunrise is 5:27 am, sunset 8:56 pm. It’s never snowed, but we've had just about every other type of weather imaginable.
