The Venue

Located 35 miles Northeast of Knoxville, Panther Creek State Park will play host to The Dirt Circuit once again. Offering 12 and 24 hour races, the Dirt Circuit is sure to deliver a challenge to runners of all backgrounds and abilities. The Dirt Circuit is 2.95 miles of trail mostly resembling that of a cross country course. The loop course is a combination of wide and single track trails through fields and woods with two wooden bridge crossings. The course winds gently around the park offering many scenic views of Panther Creek. The Dirt Circuit starts and finishes at the soccer fields, which will serve as Base Camp for the weekend. For this spectator-friendly race, athletes, vendors, family, and friends are encouraged to enjoy the fun at Base Camp throughout the weekend.

Race Overview

The Dirt Circuit starts promptly at 8:00 am on Saturday, October from the grass field across from the pool and tennis courts, near the park’s entrance. The field will serve as Base Camp for the weekend. The course is moderate to easy in difficulty and resembles that of a cross country course. Runners will start the loop on a single track trail through open fields and mild rolling hills. The trail will lead to a road crossing (first road crossing of two) before continuing on to wooded forest. Please look both ways when crossing the paved road segments. The trail widens as it winds its way through the woods and arrives at the second paved road. Runners will then make a left turn to cross a small wooden bridge. The trail gets a little bit more technical for the short segment of course through the woods. Runners will then cross the same wooden bridge and rejoin the main trail. After a few hundred yards, the course arrives at the start/lap line and runners will have the opportunity to fuel up or make an exchange with relay members. Relay teams do not have to hand off at every lap. Teams are welcome to develop their own game plans for when and who will run next for their team.

The 24 hour race will continue through the night. The course will be marked with orange flags and tape for daytime use and glow sticks for when the sun goes down. Head lamps are strongly encouraged.

The course may be gentle, but make no mistake…. 12 hours of running is a long time; and 24 hours is just plain crazy! The runner(s) with the most miles in when the clock runs out with be The Dirt Circuit Champions
