The 2nd Annual Wambaw Swamp Stomp is a 50 mile trail race along the Swamp Fox Passage leg of the Palmetto Trail. This event uses an "out and back" format, 25 miles out and 25 miles back to the Start/Finish line. There are 7 aid stations along the route. 1 at the START/FINISH line, 5 on the course, and one at the 25 mile mark. Each aid station is roughly 5 miles apart and is well stocked. Each station will be manned with volunteers and will have a portable toilet for participant/spectator use.
The course is flat and fast with an elevation gain/loss of maybe 60'. The route will take you through three different ecosystems within the Francis Marion National Forest. Large sections of the trail are surrounded by Pine trees with clusters of hard wood stands. You will run through two large Carolina Bay areas and a section of the Wambaw Swamp. Don't worry, swamp is a harsh word. You probably won't even know the difference along the trail when you run through it.
This event will have a 14 hour cut off for solo 50 mile participants.
This event will offer one Patagonia event shirt for participants and finisher bling... once you finish. Also, cold beer at the finish will await your return, courtesy of Magic Hat Breweries. Backdraft BBQ SC will cater the event so you can enjoy some real Southern BBQ once you finish this epic event on one of the best trails in South Carolina.
