Scenic single-track trail, five mile loop, moderately to very technical. A few road crossings on lightly-traveled park roads. Some stream crossings are possible, depending on recent rainfall. Trail is very well-marked and maintained. This trail would be classified (4,4) by the Ultrarunning.com scale. Approximately 750 feet elevation change per loop. This trail will challenge the most seasoned runner! Full aid station at start/finish area with secondary water/gel station halfway around loop.
12 Hour Relay
There is a competitive two-person relay division, and the race is open to relays of three or more people, but there will be no awards for larger relay teams. If you are interested in signing up for the relay division, please contact RD at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Cost is same per runner as individual.
Very nice hand-crafted awards from a local artisan to top three men and women, and winning two-runner relay team. All solo runners completing 10 loops will become members of the Cacapon 50 Mile Club and receive a commemorative pint glass to recognize this achievement. Special awards in 2017 for all five-year finishers!
New for 2017
We will have turnaround markers on the trail for runners to do a short out-and-back after their fifth, sixth or (gulp!) 12th(!) loop to achieve a marathon, 50K or 100K distance. Exciting announcement: The Cacapon 12 Hour Challenge has been designated the RRCA 2017 West Virginia Ultra State Championship!!
