The 2015 Tusk Run is set for 8:30am on Saturday, July 25th at Olde Rope Mill Park in Woodstock

Course Description

Our 5k race course is beginner friendly, but keep in mind that this is a TRAIL RUN, not a road run. This means that there are some roots and rocks to avoid, hills to climb, and lots of turns. If you've never run trails before, expect to be a few minutes slower than you are on the road or track. It is worth the challenge! If you are an experienced trail runner, you'll find the Explorer Trail at Rope Mill to be relatively fast with rolling hills totaling approximately 300 feet of elevation gain for 3.1 miles.

The race course will be a 3.1 mile trail run. Note that GPS units don't track well inside of the park, so if you use GPS to train at Rope Mill or plan to use GPS on race day, be aware that you will likely only record 2.5- 2.8 miles on your device. Our course is "wheeled" so you can be sure you're running a 5k - no more, no less. The course will be well marked! We will have one aid station that you will pass twice at miles 1.5 and 2.25 - you might not need it, but we will have it just in case the summer heat gets the best of you.

To get the distance right, you will utilize loop 1 and loop 2 on the Explorer Trail, and some of loop 3. If you ran all of loop 3, it would be a 3.7 mile race, so we cut off the most technical portion of the loop to ensure you have a fast 3.1 mile route. We will not be utilizing the more challenging Avalanche Trail for the 5k course. A detailed course map is available on our website along with GPS and elevation data. For general information about the trails at Rope Mill, visit sorbawoodstock.org.

Our 8 mile course will begin with a moderately technical 5 mile loop around newly constructed Fierce Trail before merging onto the 5k course. Note that the 8 mile course is not intended for new runners, as aid station and volunteer support will be minimal for the first 5 miles.

Awards

$100 to the fastest male and female in each race. This includes both the 5k and 8 miler. Custom award plaques to top 3 in each age group for the 5k. Bonus prize for a course record. Think you can beat 18:20 / 20:48 (men/women)? Come on out to the Tusk Run and show us what you can do! Just like last year, 1st place overall gets $100 cash. Details on the prizes for a course record coming soon.

Results / Timing

Professional timing and same day results will be provided by Orion Racing. Official results and awards are based off of gun time in accordance with USATF rule 245 which states:

"The official time shall be the time elapsed between the start of the watches or timing devices resulting from an appropriate start signal and when the athlete reaches the finish line. The actual time elapsed between when an athlete reaches the starting line and finish line can be made known to the athlete, but will not be considered as an official time."
