Little Tybee Conquest

The Little Tybee Conquest is coming back in 2015 but this time as half-marathon (13.1 miles)!

Race date: Saturday, August 8, 2015

Race Start: 7:30 am

This race will always start approximately 2 hours before Low tide during the day time.

The race will again take place on the uninhabited wild island called Little Tybee!  This island belongs to the sea turtles, sea birds, alligators, crabs and barrier island Coastal Bigfoots (sub-species of the mountain Bigfoot - not quite as big, not quite as smelly).  Well, all of the critters of Little Tybee have been gracious enough to open up their home to us!  Thank you, critters!  We promise to take care of your home during this race! :)

The course again is out and back but this time incorporating a little bit of forest, just enough to get our 13.1 miles.  Don't let that scare you!  The course is 97% beach run!

Runners will follow the Little Tybee Island course from North to South.

There are 4 channel crossings that will require some swimming and wading.

The southern most channel is the most demanding with strong currents either with incoming or outgoing tides.  Unless you are a strong swimmer, it is advised that you wear a life vest or flippers for this channel crossing.

Saying that, life vests, flippers, body boards are allowed and welcomed but the runners must carry these items the duration of the run.

There are no roads to Little Tybee but a water taxi service will be provided for a reasonable fee.  Otherwise, you are free to kayak, canoe, swim, boat, catapult or canon fired over to Little Tybee.  How you get to Little Tybee is up to you!  Just get there on time for the packet pickup, briefing and start!

The race is capped at 25 runners - no exceptions.

With this race, we want to promote the responsible use of our national treasures.  Little Tybee Island is truly a gem, a beautiful natural treasure. We want to enjoy this beautiful place but be mindful that to keep it beautiful and special means to be very protective of it.

If you do not get in this time please be patient.  We'll get you on the wait list and if a spot opens up we'll pull you in!

Thanks!

Happy Running!
