About the 24 Hour Run

Five years ago, Tony Overbay, came up with the idea of running for 24 hours and then host a 5K fundraiser for his kid's school. With budget cuts happening, several after school sports and extra curricular programs were endangered of becoming unavailable for Glen Edwards Middle School students. Tony has been running marathons and ultra marathons for years, so a 24 hour run sounded like a great challenge for him and great way to inspire people to come out to run the 5K the next morning. Last year Tony had another fellow G.E.M.S. dad join him in the 24 Hour Track Trek IV, Jeffery Johnston. Jeffery is returning for his second Track Trek and we couldn't be more pleased to have them running together again!!

Tony and Jeffery will begin their 24 Hour Track Trek V at Glen Edwards Middle School. The entire student body is out on the field to welcome Tony and Jeffery to the track. The Overbay and Johnston families will arrive in style. A limo drives them up to the school track and goes around the track to drop them off in front of the students. They start their trek with the principal and the vice principal at 8:15am. Through out the day, the students have the opportunity to run with him around the track during their PE classes and lunch hours. They love being able to interact with the students. Around 4:00pm, Tony and Jeffery veer off the G.E.M.S. track and run over to Lincoln High School track, where they continue to run throughout the night. Several community members and their other ultra marathon running friends will help Tony and Jeffery by pacing them throughout the night. As the 24 Hour Track Trek V comes to a close the next morning, it will be a quite a site to see them end their journey. At 8:15am on Saturday morning, join us around the track as we cheer our Ultra Dads across their finish line!

Each year Tony has had a goal of how many miles he has wanted to complete. The first year Tony wanted to reach 100 miles, he did plus an impressive 11.5 more. The second year Tony decided to set his goal a few miles higher than 111.5 miles. He went for a 120 miles and he again met his goal and more. Tony finished at 122 miles!!! Tony completed 125 miles at the 3rd Annual Track Trek. Despite the torrential rain that beat down on them all day and night, Tony completed 123 miles and Jeffery, in his 24 hr debut, completed an impressive 100 miles!
We can't wait to see what Tony and Jeffery reach this year. Will they make it to 130???
