Long Path Race Series

New York, NY Series

This Event Took Place Sat. Oct 31, 2015

About the Long Path Race Series

Created and maintained by the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, the Long Path is an incredible 350-mile hiking trail that reaches from New York City to the outskirts of Albany, along the way traversing some of New York's most beautiful natural parks and preserves, including the New Jersey Palisades, Harriman State Park, Schunemunk Mountain, the Shawangunk Mountains, the Catskills, and the Helderberg Escarpment.

The name was inspired by the opening stanza of Walt Whitman's Song of the Open Road.

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
– Walt Whitman, Song of the Open Road

The Long Path Races Series is not a race in and of itself, but rather, a family of races on the New York Long Path, one of the northeast's most scenic and exciting trails. The intent of the series is to build awareness for the Long Path and the work of the Trail Conference and its volunteers, and to get more people running and hiking on New York's beautiful trails.

Rules

1. Participants in Long Path Race Series events will accrue points based on the sum of total miles raced at each event multiplied by the percentage of the finishing time relative to the event's winner. Participants will accrue points for each event in the series in which they take part, but it is not necessary to participate in every event.

2. For example, a female participant who ran the SRT 20-mile division with a time of 6:00, relative to the overall winner's time of 3:00, would receive 10 points = 20 miles x 3:00/6:00

3. The female (under 50), male (under 50), female master (50 or over), and male master (50 or over) with the overall highest point totals at the end of the year will be recognized as "Disciples of the Long Brown Path" and be eligible for awards. To be eligible for recognition/awards, participants must register for the series. Registration fees help defray website and administrative costs of the series. Participants must separately register for each event in accordance with the requirements and policies of the events and their managers.

4. Points towards the Long Path Race Series will not be accrued for participation in Relay Divisions of the events.
