2024 Event Details!
For the 2024 Frozen heart 50k or less event, we will be hosting as a Fat Ass style event. The cost of the race is free. However runners are asked to bring a food donation to share with other runners. The Race Director will provide water, host the aid station, and mark the course. Donations are appreciated to cover the cost of the permit and insurance.
The Frozen Heart is a low-key winter race for trail loving runners. Runners of all abilities are encouraged to challenge themselves to complete one of the three available distances. The course consists of up to 6 loops around Calvert Cliffs State Park (approx. 5.25 miles each). Runners have the option of completing two loops (17K), four loops (34K), or six loops (50K). The Frozen Heart course trails are mostly double track and very runnable with some technical sections with tree roots. Some hills, but no major elevation changes (with the exception of one West Virginia-esque slope). All water crossings have bridges, but depending on the weather there could be snow, water, or mud on the trail. The surface of the trail is roughly half sand and half packed dirt. The course is marked with blazes and mileage markers and there will also be signs and markers to keep runners on course. There will be one aid station (and park toilets will be available--please keep these clean, since your friendly race director may not be so friendly if she has to clean up after you!!!) located on the loop and runners will have access every 5.25 miles of their race. Additionally, a pavilion will be available for you to leave a crew bag for your use. The aid station will be stocked and manned by volunteers.
There is an 8.5 hour cutoff for all events. Runners must begin their final lap by 2pm.

Saturday, February 24th, 2024 at 7:00 am from the parking lot of Calvert Cliffs State Park (10540 HG Truman Road in Lusby, MD, 20657). Carpooling with other race participants is strongly encouraged to alleviate any parking inconveniences for our host park. Race day registration will be available from 6:15 - 6:45 am if space is available, but prior registration is STRONGLY encouraged.
