Race Information for the 11/8 event

The Race is On!!!
The Cross County Trail is a good one! Please register for the race if you would like to enjoy the wonderful trail with other runners and super volunteers at the seventh annual edition of the race to be held on Sunday November 8th. Due to asphalt paving in recent years the flat course is about 75% paved at present. About 25% of the course is dirt/gravel with good footing.
The race web page is located at
The race start/finish is at the Lake Accotink front entrance parking lot located seven tenths of a mile past the park entrance at 7578 Lake Accotink Road Springfield, VA 22150.

Race Update Email sent to registered and waitlist runners as of 10/1

Race Update - Altis Endurance Sports has submitted the race COVID-19 Management Plan to the Parks Department which is the last step towards receiving a COVID-19 era amended race permit. I am optimistic that the race will be conducted as planned on Sunday November 8th, but anything can happen in the COVID-19 era.

I love "old school racing" but please note that there are a few changes to racing in the COVID-19 era - an era which will hopefully be as short as possible. There will not be the usual mass race starts. Four runners will start each minute. Race bibs will be mailed to runners as there will not be any pre-race packet pickup. It is likely that runner exact start times will be written on the race bib - if not start times will be disseminated via email. Runners will be able to pick up safety pins for the bibs at the race start if needed. The course - which is simply run the Cross County Trail except for a short detour to and from the first aid station - will be well marked. Runners will receive the pre-race speech via email. Please, please read the speech. Aid stations will only have store purchased small bottles of water, and Gatorade (likely the red, blue, and yellow flavors). Please discard the plastic bottles in aid station or park recycling bins only. Please note that runners can have drop bags at their vehicles in the parking lot if desired. Runners will pick up their race shirt and finisher medal off a table after finishing, and then after picking up an individual soda/Ensure/chocolate milk/Gatorade for recovery runners must leave the start/finish area. Frank and I love to talk to runners at the finish, but that is just not possible this year. It is what it is. As a runner I face these same COVID-19 protocols in upcoming races which I still enthusiastically look forward to running.

Every runner on the race waitlist as of October 1st is in the race - presuming the COVID plan is approved and that you accept the invitation to become an official race entrant.

Frank and I of Altis Endurance Sports will email another race update as soon as we know anything, or on October 8th at the latest.

Happy Trails,
Frank and Mike
