Course Description

One of the more diverse trail ultras in Illinois. A beautiful 17 mile loop that consists of single track, hiking trails, and open prairie paths. You will see that we take a lot of pride in maintaining our trail system at COMLARA Park.

Shady Hollow Trail Runners

We are a 100% not-for-profit trail running club. Most of the race fees go into the event, the remainder goes to one of our charities. We are an old school, grass roots type running club and we take a lot of care to make this race, one of the best ultras in Illinois.

51 mile Ultra (3 Laps) Ultra and Half

The 51 mile Ultra will start at 4:30 am. Three 17 mile loops. Course will be well marked with reflectors and flags. Sunrise is approximately 6:35 am so headlamps or other lighting is required. Runners must start the last loop by 12:30 pm and the course closes at 5:30 pm.

34 mile Ultra (2 Laps) Ultra

The 34 mile Ultra will start at 7:30 am.

17 mile fun run (1 Lap) Half Ultra

One fast loop around beautiful Evergreen Lake. Race will start at 7:30 am with the 34 mile group. Finisher awards and overall Male and Female only. No age groups awards.

Start/Finish Area

The start and finish will be located next to the "Prairie Picnic Shelter" (40.640779, -89.034239). The start is next to a parking lot with plenty of room. There are restrooms, a playground area, and covered pavilions. Canopies are allowed along the start/finish line. No tents allowed in this area for camping. All camping are only allowed in designated camping area.

Race Day Registration


For the last minute runners there will be race day registration along with packet pick-up from 3:30 to 6 am on Saturday September 10th. However, remember, the 51 miler starts at 4:30 am.


Camping is allowed only in approved camping areas. The MRA Group Camping area (40.638575, -89.034550) is a short walk from the start/finish area.

Aid Stations

Four fully stocked aid stations with your basic aid-station ultra food. Gluten free will also be available. Hydration & Nutrition will be provided by Tailwind Nutrition. Tailwind information can be found at:
