Are you looking for a race to help you cross your previous threshold with that little extra distance? Then join the BUTS crew for our most festive trail race yet on December 17th at Red Mountain Park! If you’re ready for your first ‘Ultra’ marathon and hibernation just isn’t your thing, then the 27 mile “Bearly Ultra” is the run for you. However, if your paws aren’t ready for that leap in distance but still a four month nap doesn’t sound exciting, then drop down to the 13.5 mile Cub Half Ultra. If you’re more of a hunter, then get your Pack together for the Wolf Pack Chase Relay. A pack of up to four runners will start exactly one hour after the bears, for a relay sprint to the finish. This will be the second year for our 1 mile Fox Fun Run! This run will take place an hour before, allowing those registering for other events to awaken their inner animals for the chase ahead! The course design for our 4th annual race will incorporate freshly blazed and beautiful single track trails of red iron ore, weaving through this transformed historic mining park; a challenge for both the new and gnarly trail runner alike!
With the popularity of this race growing, means the party grows as well! More than just a race, this family friendly event will have numerous local sponsors on hand throughout the day to provide coffee, pastries, and much more to help soothe those weary paws!
Every Bear, Cub, Wolf and Fox will receive a finisher’s award! This race will fill up quickly so register early to ensure you have your spot! Additionally, you must sign up by December 7th to be guaranteed a participant keepsake.
Supporting our local trail systems~it's what we do.
AND if you needed another reason to sign up for the BUTS Bearly Ultra here it is...75% of your entry fee will be donated back to the park! BUTS values the Birmingham area trails, and we hope you do too. One of our purposes is to help maintain, upkeep, and create new trails so you and your loved ones may enjoy them. Red Mountain Park has been a wonderful addition to our park family! They are assiduous collaborators, and we want to honor and support the park's future goals.
Same great course as last year...dirt road, single track, ridge trails.
The course has a variety of single tracks, power line, and jeep track roads. There will be three fully supplied and manned aid stations along the route with two water only stops. An elevation map and course map are located in the photos.
Packet pickup will be on Friday, December 16th from 5-7 and race day starting at 6:00-7am at Red Mountain Park. Contact Sachiko Green at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
