RACE POSTPONED FOR 2022
The Castle Peak 100k is postponed until 2023 due to significant Forest Service permit and land survey requirements impacting the 2022 race. While this is incredibly disappointing, we are focused and busy putting our energy into planning an incredible race for 2023.

Description
The Castle Peak 100k is arguably one of the most difficult trail races in the country. Masked by its spectacular beauty, this is a true mountain race unlike any other on the ultra-running circuit. A looping, dramatic course offering genuine support with fully stocked aid stations that are staffed by experienced ultra-running volunteers. The race starts on the Pacific Crest in Truckee, California at the Donner Ski Ranch before ascending (and descending) over 15,000′ at an average elevation of 7,400′ above sea level. The course travels over roughly 95% of demanding single-track trails while journeying through some of the most dramatic scenery and vistas the region has to offer.
The course will take you through the Tahoe National Forest, up and over the breathtaking Pacific Crest more than once. Traversing along the Donner Lake Rim Trail you’ll catch amazing views of Donner Lake and Johnson Canyon, before entering the hidden beauty of the Warren Lake Loop. New for 2021 the course will have two new out and back sections. One descends to Frog Lake and the other descends to Warren Lake. These two additions add the unique opportunity of visiting Frog Lake which has been private land for nearly 100 years and experiencing the 1,100 foot descent and return to Warren Lake. Don’t be fooled – these additions albeit it beautiful will challenge the most seasoned ultra runner.
Continuing on you will then head to Basin, Castle and Andesite Peaks, cruising along some epic ridge lines. You’ll then enter the notorious Hole in the Ground trail, where time seems to stand still. Once you reach the other end of the trail you will have a 1.25 mile paved stretch of Donner Pass road that will feed you into the Royal Gorge lands and the stunning Point Mariah – overlooking the North Fork American River valley. Then prepare for a final climb up to Rowton Peak and across Razorback Ridge before descending towards the finish back at Donner Ski Ranch.
