Important Update- August 19th
August 19th Approval Update: We have an approval! It is very limited in capacity so things got a little creative in order to pull it off. All entrant's and runners on our waitlist/lottery have been emailed- please check your inbox as it is time sensitive.
The Saturday Big Pine event will consist exclusively of the 54KM race. There will be no 6K, 13K, or 27K on Saturday, September 5th. We have, however, added a 54Km on Sunday and with Monday being Labor Day, the 27Km race will take place on Monday morning.
Runners wanting to run the 6K & 13K are encouraged to check into the Friday Night Blackout Night Runs which will still hold the 6K & 13K distances the night prior to Big Pine.
You may still sign up for the waitlist until we have filled all slots for the Friday race. Thanks for your patience and we look forward to seeing you in Flagstaff!
July 17 Update: We have made the decision to postpone this race from August 8th until September 5th.
With the Governor's executive order that limits group sizes to 50pp in line until July 28th and with direction from the National Forest, we don't feel comfortable waiting until about 10 days prior to the race to make a final decision reliant on Governor Ducey's direction at that point.
We have submitted a few options to our permitting agencies with unique ways that we can hold this event, even considering adding Sunday into the mix to spread out our participants. If all parties felt comfortable with the races continuing, we would have held the races. However, that is not the reality in Arizona right now and safety has to be paramount.
We currently have a tentative approval from both permitting agencies for the September dates. Once we have a better idea of the direction that Arizona Health officials believe the state is headed, we'll have a more clear view of how that translates to our trail races. Hopefully that update will come in the first week of August.
I know there's been an awful lot of uncertainty and the waiting game makes it difficult to prepare for a race, and I do apologize for that. We will continue to prepare on the back end to hold a safe and enjoyable event in September utilizing COVID guidelines.
Meanwhile, as we have paused all payments when registering for our races, you are welcome to hop on the waitlist for the new September 5th date. Once we have 100% confirmation of that race happening, you'll receive an invite to register.
Thank you for your patience and continued support during this time.
June 15 Update: We are waiting for guidelines from Coconino County on COVID-19 recommendations on whether we can hold this event safely.
Due to the uncertainty with COVID-19 we have made registration for this event a waitlist only until we are certain the event can take place. If the race goes on as planned, you will receive an email from Ultrasignup asking you to accept the invitation to register for this race. No money will be collected until you accept this registration. Please continue to check back for updates!
Welcome to the 6th annual Big Pine Trail Runs at Fort Tuthill County Park! Runners will get to experience both the Soldiers Trail and Highlands Trail Loop (6 Km runners will only run on a partial Soldiers Trail loop) which winds through the ponderosa pines above 7,000 ft, eventually topping out on a mesa with expansive views of mountain landscapes before being enveloped back into the trees. The trail ranges from narrow single track to wide well-maintained forest paths. The course is well graded for beginners while allowing the more experienced runner to stretch their legs and gun for a fast time while still maintaining the challenge of being at a higher elevation. Races follow a 13K loop. (54K = 4 loops / 27 Km = 2 loops / 13 Km = 1 loop).
