A New Twist on an Old Tale!

Welcome to the 4th Annual Trail Series! This race is one of the MOST UNIQUE Ultras you will EVER run! We have an exciting race coming to you in the mountain trails of Blue Ridge, GA just a short drive north of Atlanta. The great thing about the sport of running is the camaraderie among runners. In a typical race the faster runner (Hare) arrives long before the middle/back of the pack and the slower runner (Tortoise) arrives as the party is ending. How about a race where everyone finishes (approximately) at the same time?! Introducing…the TORTOISE and the HARE 50K/30K™!

Runners will select a wave start time relative to their ability and that will determine your starting time, with runners starting in hourly waves – Tortoises first! The slower you are, the earlier you begin and the faster you are, the later you begin - with the goal finishing time of 3PM. This will bring everyone to the finish in a small time frame so there will be lots of fellow runners to celebrate your finish! (Of course, the winners will still be those that complete the course in the fastest time.) .

The TORTOISE and the HARE 50K and now 30K will be held on September 24th, 2016. There will be pizza provided at early packet pickup the evening before the race. We have moved the race from November to September this year so runners can have more visibility on the trail (minus the leaves) and a little warmer weather. This race has limited capacity so register today to secure your spot (once capacity is reached, NO exceptions will be made)!

PPU 30 minutes prior to your start wave. First wave begins at 6 am, goal finishing time 3 PM. Awards and post-party at 4 PM.

RULES OF THE COURSE:

If you are unable to attend packet pickup at the dinner, you must pick up your bib 30 mins prior to your start time. It is preferred if you are starting at 6 am to pick up your bib at packet pick up the night before, but not required. If you need to change your start time (earlier or later, based on how your training has gone), nothing is needed other than to cross the mats with the desired wave, as this race is chip timed.

Hydration must be carried by all runners at all times. There will be plenty of fluids at aid stations, but for the safety of all participants we must require this (50K runners will have a 10 mile stretch with no aid).

Carrying your own nutrition is HIGHLY recommended. Although there will be aid stations we strongly suggest you carry items such as nutrition bars, gels and salt tablets.

Deep Gap - From McDonald's restaurant at the intersection of GA Hwy. 515 and GA Hwy. 5 in Blue Ridge. Proceed east on GA Hwy. 515 (toward Blairsville) approx. 0.8 miles to Windy Ridge Road. At Windy Ridge Road turn right, go 0.2 miles to dead end with Old U.S. 76. Turn left, go 0.2 miles to Aska Road on right. Turn right, go south 4.4 miles to Deep Gap parking area below gap and on right side of road.

AM I GUARANTEED A RACE SHIRT?
Every participant is guaranteed a shirt. Everyone registered prior to Sept 14th will have the shirt size they selected during online registration. Packet pickup and same day registrants will receive a shirt on a first come, first serve basis. We do our best to get everyone the size they want.

WHAT IF I NEED TO EXCHANGE FOR A DIFFERENT SHIRT SIZE?
After the race, you can exchange your shirt from the remaining sizes available.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CHANGE MY WAVE START TIME?
This race is chip timed, so your time will begin when you cross the starting line. You don't need to do anything to change your wave start time. Simply begin with the start wave of your choice.

WHAT WAVE START TIME SHOULD I SELECT?

WHAT TYPE OF TIMING IS BEING USED?
TATHR Event Timing will be timing the event. We will use our new, state of the art MyLaps Bibtag Timing System. Your timing chip will be on the back of your racing number bib. Participants must wear their number on the FRONT of their outer garment. Participants must wear a race number bib to get an official time and be included in the results.

WHERE CAN I FIND RESULTS AFTER THE RACE?
Results will be posted here on the race website online and can be found by scanning the QR code on your bib.

HOW DO I GET TO THE START/FINISH WITH NO PHYSICAL ADDRESS?
Use Ace Hardware address initially. Take a right onto Aska Road after the Ace Hardware.
You'll stay on Aska Rd. and go all the way down to Dry Branch Rd. which will be on your left. As you go onto Dry Branch Rd, there will be a sharp turn to the right to continue on Dry Branch. If you turn the other way to your left you'll be going down Deer Hunter Rd. which takes you off Dry Branch Rd. The road entering into the Start/Finish location will be on your right about a mile down, you will see a boat parking area and a stop sign. You just turn in there and it dead ends into a parking lot.
