About the Race
What used to be a no-holds barred run up a mountain in the 1970's, turned grassroots community running event, is now back with a competitive edge that's fun for everyone!! This classic trail run is one of the hardest 10k races in Los Angeles and offers a cash prize purse, a "Downhill Flyer" time bonus, and a fastest "Local Legend" prize. Finisher medals, overall winners and age group awards are handcrafted by local artists, the shirts are soft, a sweet design, and fit specific to men, women, and children, and you get official bragging rights for next year's event.
Be part of the Hiker's Delight and get a head start on runners up the mountain.
Kids can run the Junior Tough Topanga 1-kilometer race, too.
Enjoy hard-earned breakfast burritos after the race, check out the exhibitors at the post-race festival, or make runner friends in the beer garden while embellishing race stories. There'll be plenty of breakfast and places to sit for everyone. Cheer on the future of trail running as kids run the Junior's race and stick around for the awards ceremony honoring the toughest runners. Maybe even get lucky and win a giveaway from an amazing event sponsor!
This event benefits Run Topanga, supporting youth, sport and fitness in the Santa Monica Mountains; 1% For The Planet; and California State Parks. A great effort is made to partner with the amazing, local businesses of Topanga, California.

All Tough Topanga events start at Trippet Ranch, in Topanga State Park.
The Tough Topanga 10K course is rugged, steep, and breath-takingly beautiful. Winding up out of Trippett Ranch through meadows of wild flowers, runners leave the shade of the Coastal Live Oaks, fuel up at an aid station, and head for the pitted face of Eagle Rock. This might seem like the highest part of the course, but it's not. Just past the 2nd aid station at Hub Junction and the Turnaround, the course plunges downhill through Eagle Springs with an occasional climb to mix it up. The trail finally drops down for the last mile to Trippett Ranch and the Finish Line, determining who the true Speed Demons are.
The Junior Tough Topanga 1-kilometer race has elements of the Tough Topanga 10k, but after a short climb on the fire road, runners duck out and rip down a winding single-track under the cover of trees. The final surge past the Visitor's Center to the finish line is lined with cheering spectators.
