Course Description

The Night Stalker Association (NSA) and The Dirtbag Duo presents the inaugural Night Stalker Ultras taking place in Land Between the Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area, along the North/South (N/S) Trail. The N/S Trail spans the entire length of LBL, and for those taking on the 99 Mile distance, you will see a large majority of the trail. The trail consists primarily of single-track trails, with the occasional gravel or old logging road; though these sections are brief. All distances for this race will be an out and back, with the start line and finish line at the Piney Campground at the southern-most portion of LBL.

Significance of the 99 Mile Distance

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) (SOAR (A)), known as the ''Night Stalkers," is the world's premier night fighting aviation force and the Army's only Special Operations Aviation Regiment, and to date has experienced the loss of 99 of its brave and dedicated warriors. Each mile of the 99 mile distance is dedicated to these lives lost taking the fight to the enemy abroad.

The Cause

**All proceeds for this event will be provided to the NSA**

https://www.nsa160.com

The NSA is a non-profit organization created in the late 1980s and is organized under IRC 501(c)(19) as a War Veterans' Organization. Contributions to the NSA are therefore tax-deductible under IRC 170(c)(3) and serve to preserve the memories and comradeship kindled by the mutual experience of service with the 160th SOAR (A) and to render assistance to Night Stalker members and families, and our fallen brothers surviving families, through means of college grants, loans, special financial assistance, camaraderie building events, and personal guidance.

Aid stations

**UPDATE** As we run the course in sections each weekend, we are finding additional aid station locations, so there will likely be one or two additions to what is already listed. In the end, or intent is to have an aid station approx. every 5-6 miles when possible. We already found one at the 5 mile mark which will also allow for one at the 10 mile mark on the way out, so depending on your distance, they will be there as well on the way back to the finish. Updates will be provided this weekend (12/22/19), and we will continue to refine aid stations (to benefit the runner, never impede)

99-Miler: There will be 15 aid stations along the course.

1/15: 8.05m/88.50m

2/14: 14.15m/82.50m

3/13: 19.85m/76.60m

7/9: 41.50m/55.15m

100k: There will be 9 aid stations along the course

1/9: 8.05m/53.95m

2/8: 14.15m/47.85m

3/7: 19.85m/42.15m

4/6: 24.75m/37.25m

2/3: 14.15m/16.95m

All aid stations will be “full-service”; including the standard race food and hydration. As stated above, these aid stations will not have cups, so you must have a hydration source. Aid Station 5/11 will be the drop bag location for 99 mile and 100k runners.

Pacers / Crew

Pacers and crew are allowed for the 100k and 99 Miler. There are many access points throughout the course, however, aid stations will be the only point of entry for pacers and crew. I will put out the specific aid stations that are the most accessible in the near future (12/22/2019).

Awards

Custom “top-finisher” awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place overall Male and Female for all three distances.

*UltraSpire Race Vests will be awarded to the top finishing male and female for the 99 mile distance, and UltraSpire Race Belts will be awarded to the 2nd Place male and female finishers in the 97 mile distance.

*The top active-duty military member in each distance will also receive a custom award.

All finishers will get a finishers medal (Buckle for the 97 Miler), a race shirt, and additional swag TBD.

Post-Race

Feel free to stick around post-race for some homemade food and snacks. Everything will wrap up at approx. 1300 the morning of the 3rd. If you are so inclined, bring food and drop it off prior to the race to share with the finishers after they cross the line.
