For the past 3 decades, the first Saturday in May has meant one thing in the scenic hills of Bedford County, Tennessee; the return of the Ultra-Marathoners. And the Ultra-Marathoners have kept coming back to stroll the quiet streets of Wartrace and Bell Buckle, enjoying the picturesque homes and quaint shops. Coming back to share in the three-day reunion of the Southern Ultra community. Coming back to celebrate the end of winter with a run in the inspiring springtime beauty of the Highland Rim. Coming back to be a part of one of the most competitive Road Ultras in the US, and to match their times against the fastest runners of the past 30 years. Coming back to strive for a coveted Gold Shirt. Coming back to feast on the bountiful repast at both pre- and post-run festivities. But, most of all, the Ultra-Marathoners keep coming back because, at the Strolling Jim™, every runner is a hero, an honored guest, and a welcomed friend. Join us this May for the 36th running of the race, and you will find your own reasons to keep coming back.
20 miles and 10k options
New for 2014 is our Strolling Jim 20 mile and Strolling Jim 10k options. All runners will start together.
10k will peel off at 2.5 miles and run a scenic course.
20 milers will run the first 13 miles with the 40 milers before turning for the finish line.
Run a unique distance and take advantage of the opportunity to move up from the common half marathon distance, all the while enjoying the flavor that is the Strolling Jim.
note: Veterans of the Strolling Jim know that the 40 miler is really 41.2... well... in keeping with the logic of "close enough" the 20 miler is 19.3 miles, and the 10k is 7.2 miles. These mileages allow us to give you the best course available.
And 40/20/10 sounds better than 41.2/19.3/7.2 don't you think?
20 milers will receive the same awesome medal that 40 milers receive, and the same great shirt.
10k runners receive the shirt and a cool medal.
Please donate to Cascade Athletics
Proceeds from the SJ 10k go to support Cascade sports teams, both Youth and High School. Gather your friends and join for a good cause. There is no time limit on the 10k, so this is an excellent opportunity for your non-running friends to keep a lovely stroll through the fabulous countryside.
The volunteers you will be thanking on run day are all affiliated with the Cascade Sports programs.
NOTE: If you'd rather run the 40 mile or 20 mile you can still show your support by checking a donation box during your registration process. Thank you so much for your much needed help.
