Race Information

Newly revised for 2015, War at Windrock has upped the ante and the elevation gain! Runners will have the option of tackling a grueling 50K course through the wind farm or an abbreviated, yet punishing, 11 mile trail run.

Nestled in Windrock Park, just north of Oak Ridge, TN, runners will conquer a wild journey of ATV trails that consist of steep climbs, rugged terrain, and breathtaking mountain views (if you still have any breath left). Best of all, the 50K is routed directly through the wind farm- strictly off limits to the general public under normal circumstances- as Dirty Bird Events has gained exclusive access to this private area.

The races will offer athletes the opportunity to enjoy Windrock Mountain on foot rather than by off-road vehicles in which the park is known for. The 50K Trail Race is recommended for experienced trail runners. With over 5,000 feet of elevation gain over rocks, roots, and ruts you will be glad when this battle is over. The 50K is a loop course that makes its way up to the top of the mountain for a run through the windmills. It then follows the ridge line for a few miles offering spectacular views of both the Smoky Mountains and Cumberland Mountains before descending down the mountain for the finish.

If the 50K seems like too much to handle, there is an 11 mile option that will still give you a taste of just how brutal this mountain can be. Athletes will all start at the same time and run together for the first few miles before separating on their own respective courses. The 11 Mile Course sees plenty of elevation gain and creek crossings. After climbing, the course cuts across the mountain over an old dam and rejoins with the 50K course for the final descent to the finish line.

The 50K and 11 Mile races are cup free. Runners are responsible for carrying their own hydration systems with them.

Runners must have their official race number visible at all times. There will be no unofficial runners allowed on the course.

For safety concerns, runners must check in at each aid station. If participants are wanting to drop out of the race, they must inform the nearest aid station.

Pacing / Crewing of runners will not be allowed.

Unsportsmanlike conduct, course cutting, littering, or violation of any of the policies set forth will be grounds for disqualification.
