SNOWSHOE AND FATBIKE RACES

That’s right you heard me! Trail Maniacs is offering a snowshoe and a fat bike race at Mt. Spokane State Park this winter. All abilities are welcome! This is not your typical snowshoe or fat bike event. Maybe you want to try both? Well go ahead and try them both - we are also offering a duathlon category.

Both events will incorporate groomed trails and single track. The four mile route starts at the snowmobile parking lot (a Discovery pass is required). From the parking lot all participants will head up the summit road (must stay to the right of the road) riding or snow shoeing for 1.4 miles with about 700’ of elevation gain and grades from 5%-12% (on the groomed section). Then there is a relatively flat section for about ½ mile before descending Mt. Kit Carson Loop road. The route eventually passes the CCC cabin and will hit the packed single-track, riding the roller coaster of trail #130. At mile 3 racers will cross the summit road for more single track (this section is so much fun) and eventually merge onto Trail #131. At the bottom you will see the finish at mile 4. Click here for the 4 mile trail map.

The two mile snow shoe route is quite a bit tamer. The 2 milers will also start up the Summit road (must stay to the right of the road). After climbing 1.1 miles racers will hit the single track and work their way back to the start. Total climbing for this loop is about 600’. Click here for the two mile trail map.

SNOWSHOE RACE: Snowshoe participants must wear snowshoes and a flashing rear light (provided). Both regular snowshoes and special running snowshoes will work just fine. This is a fun and challenging event with proceeds donated to Spokane Nordic Club. After the race enjoy hot chocolate and other fine beverages from Trail Maniacs. The snowshoe race will consist of a 2 mile course and a 4 mile course (see map).

FATBIKE RACE: The fat bike race will consist of the same 4 mile course, beginner riders will do 1 lap and advanced riders will do 2 laps. Helmets are required as well as a flashing rear light (provided). Please dress appropriately you will work up a sweat on the climb and get cold on the descent.

DUATHLON RACE: The duathlon race is for advanced snowshoe/riders only and will consist of the 4 mile show shoe course and 4 mile fat bike course. Participants will do the snowshoe run first, then do the fat bike course.
