The Bandit Trail Run was created in 2009 by Randy Shoemaker after running the mountains around his home for a decade (or two, if you are counting).  He, along with the Bandit Committee, are all trail runners who understand what makes a race good or GREAT!

Whether you are running The Bandit for the first time or returning we’ve put together important details you need to know.

We can’t control the weather but this race is well marked, well staffed, well managed and VERY well reviewed as one of the best experiences Runners and Ultra Runners have ever had.

The 2015 Bandit Ultra is expected to have fantastic green mountains, small water crossings, baking sun and canopies of trees.

Weather expectations for this year are perfect.

There are six trails we link together across Ventura and LA County: Corriganville, Marr Land, Chumash, Hummingbird and Tapo Open Space.  It’s got single track, double track and fire roads.  They each have unique terrain including mud, sand, rock, boulders, epic views, rolling hills, water crossing...basically pure awesomeness.

Take some time to read the reviews for more detailed experiences.

You’ll also find fully supplied aid stations and volunteers throughout the entire event.

As Race Day draws near keep an eye on your email for our Bandit Newsletter  The 6045 News (That’s the highest elevation point on our race) where we will announce Training Runs, Sponsor Deals, Race Course Facts and more.  Your registration added you to the mailing list for this newsletter.

This is an ULTRA event, so we will be running RAIN OR SHINE.

50K

The 50K runners begin in Corriganville with a mile loop IN THE PARK then up to Rocky Peak to Chumash.  Chumash converges with Evening Sky then intersects with the Marr Land/Las Llajas Trail head. It is a short wide paved fire road to the bottom of Hot Dog Hill linking you to the southern side of Tapo Open Space Trail loop.  Open Space Trail T’s then a mile return to the north side of Tapo Open Space Loop which takes you to Marr Land.  Follow Marr Land east to Rocky Peak where the Corriganville links in taking you steeply back down to Corriganville Park and the Finish Line.

You will be climbing four peaks (elevation change of 6,000+ ft) (60% fire roads and 40% single track).

The grueling terrain inspires the true grit spirit an endurance runner has right from the start with a 1.85 mile rise (from 1,115 elevation to 2,400 elevation) that carries on to a total of 3,750 ft.

In the end you will have run UP close to 12,000 feet (that's about 2.25 miles).

15K

How about single-track trail and mostly fire roads straight up race past the Rocky Peak (elevation 3,750)?

Sound like your type of “fun” then this is the race for you. This race has been run by many and revered by all as “one tough muth’a” (shut your mouth!).

A short flat start of about a quarter mile leads you to the gnarly switchback up the throat of the Corriganville Trail intersecting with the Rocky Peak Trail where you continue UP past the peak and Old Johnson’s Trail, to the turnaround station at the top of the Chumash Trail.

The 15K runners have an OUT AND BACK race beginning in Corriganville straight up (NO LOOP IN CORRIGANVILLE) to Rocky Peak Trail where it intersects with the Chumash Trail and returns the same route: Rocky Peak to Corriganville.  We will have Volunteers at the intersections, but you must be responsible for knowing and following the correct route.

6K

The 6K runners  check in and pick up their bib in Corriganville Park and are shuttled to the 6K Start Line at Hummingbird to Rocky Peak then drops down to Corriganville. It is mostly SINGLE TRACK and in some places there are cliff edges with amazing vistas.

IN CLOSING FROM THE RD

The Weather in Simi Valley has been different each year.  December and January rains (and down pours) create muddy and slippery sections and water crossings.  Bib Pick Up time is IN THE DARK and COLD so be prepared.  We welcome you to bring a chair and pop-up to hang out after the race.  Sun is BAKING every year starting about 10:00am as it hits the mountains.

Join us for TRAINING RUNS which will take you on the actual Bandit route.  Those will be announced later.  Maps of the race can be downloaded and you can get out there yourself.  Please be sure to bring fuel and water, Simi Valley gets HOT!

RUNNING GROUPS: Get organized and let us know who you are in advance so we can include you in a special surprise.

To keep our race entry fees below industry standards we NEED SPONSORS!  Do you have a business you frequent that might be interested in being a Bandit Sponsor?  Let us know or have them contact the Bandit Race Director (race@BanditTrailRun.com).>

All decisions by Race Officials are Final, and are for the safety of our Runners and our Volunteers.

We look forward to meeting you on race day or at a Training Run.
Run hard and be nice to people!

and the Bandit Race Committee
