Description

Located near Lucky Peak Reservoir in Boise, Idaho, the 12 hour Cervidae Challenge is one of several Running Monkey Challenges. This is a 12 hour timed event on an approximate two mile out-and-back course. We're calling it 4.3 miles total per lap. The single-track, non-technical trail will be marked with reflective markers since much of the run will be done at night. Runners will climb 1800' in two miles to reach Cervidae Summit where they will select one toy monkey from a Barrel of Monkeys before descending 1800' in two miles to return to the start/finish. The goal is to collect as many monkeys as possible within the strict 12 hour time limit. This low-key, "fat ass" run has no registration fees and no swag. If you would like to contribute, we encourage you to make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project (please enter "Running Monkey Challenge" in the Company/Foundation field so that we can try to find out how much the event raised. Participants must bring all the food and drink they will need during the event. All gear can be left at the start/finish while you run; expect each lap to take 1 - 2 hrs. We plan to have a warm tent at the start/finish to give you a somewhat comfy place to resupply and relax. Boise weather is rather unpredictable in December. Temperatures could be anywhere from single digits to the mid-40s. It could be dry, wet, and/or snowy. You should expect it to be windy. Weather cooperating, you should also expect to see a spectacular sunrise.
