Event Description - The Badlands

The Badlands Trail Run, August 13, 2016, Medora, North Dakota

This is the 3rd Annual Badlands Trail Run which is held in The Badlands of North Dakota along the Maah Daah Hey Trail. This event starts and finishes at the Wannagan Campground 22 miles from the town of Medora, North Dakota. This event covers distances of 50k and 50 miles. This event is open to runners and walkers. Due to the remoteness of the event, participants are required to carry a hydration pack or handheld water bottle while out on the course as well as supplemental nutrition.

Eagle Endurance, LLC will provide you with aid stations along the way. The first Aid Station that you will come to is at mile 3.3 and the second one is 4.67 miles later. This event utilizes an “out and back” type course that is very challenging, in both directions! Drop bags are allowed and will be transported to any aid station along the route.

How Distances are completed for The Badlands event:

The event consists of “out and backs” that will be completed on a 7.97 mile section of the Maah Daah Hey Trail for safety considerations. Below is how you can anticipate completing the 50k and 50 mile distances: Both events will start and finish at Wannagan Campground. 50k runners, you run from Wannagan Campground to the Aid Station at Road 725 (utilizing the Aid Station at Road 728, continuing up the trail) and back two (2) times giving you a total of 31.8 miles. 50 Mile runners: You run to the Aid Station at Road 725 (utilizing the Aid Station at Road 728, continuing up the trail) and back three (3) times and finish the event with a short 1.09 mile leg up the trail and back giving you a total of 50 miles.

The Aid Stations will have electrolyte replacement tablets/drink mix, water and typical ultra event food. Please feel free to bring whatever you would like to supplement food items. You will be able to park very close to the START/FINISH Line to access these items.

The event shirt will be mailed to you prior to the event…Please ensure that your registration address is the one you want your shirt mailed to.
