About

On a typical day in Huddart Park it's hard to imagine that this peaceful area tucked away in the hills of Woodside could ever have been swept up in a global economic turmoil that would eventually be called "The Panic of 1873."

At its height the Panic would affect all of the industrialized countries in the world. It would last for seven years and in its wake it would leave a long trail of failed banks, devalued currencies, stock market crashes, and struggling businesses.

In the United States the Panic of 1873 closed the stock market but it also produced a national railroad shutdown and an overall economic depression with widespread unemployment. Nor was it long before that depression even found its way to Huddart Park and the Santa Cruz Mountains where the legendary redwood lumber industry was brought to a standstill.

Join us for this fun race and celebrate the end of clear cutting in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and experience a beautiful run through this protected belt of second growth redwoods. And no need to panic! You'll be safe under these trees.

Choose from two distances and formats. There is a competitive Solo 10K or a Full Marathon Group Relay. The relay will be teams of 4 runners, where each participant will complete a 6.5 mile out and back on the demanding Richards Road. It will be run through the lush redwood forests of Huddart Park in Woodside, CA, is mostly non-technical with moderate climbs. Experts can use this race to measure their progress while first time racers looking for a new challenge will find this to be an excellent starting point to their trail racing adventures. At the finish, hang around and join us for cold beverages and snacks.
