Race Report from 2016

This was our second year having trail races at the 909 Taconic Hereford MultiUse Area in Pleasant Valley NY, and overall we believe the Races were a great success and all participants enjoyed their day. On Sunday, June 12, 2016 there were 41 runners in the Half-Marathon, and 8 runners in the 5-mile race. The weather was pleasant but a little warm at the start. The rain held off and we had a nice breeze develop into the run to help out the participants.
We had a minor glitch at the beginning, and some of the Half-M runners did a little EXTRA, but the front runners caught up within the first mile, and in the end they were all in the same place as right before the added distance occurred. We hope they are glad we gave them some Bonus Miles.
We would like to thank our sponsor ROCK AND SNOW located in New Paltz, NY, as we were not able to get their name on the shirt order in time. We would also like to thank Hannaford Market for donating Water and Cups to our event.
Appreciation and sincere thanks goes out to all our volunteers who made the event go smooth - we could not have done it without them! Dave B, Ed and Joan K, Joe C (the Cook and Hillbilly wineglass artist), Dan W (wooden bowl artist and timer), and Nikki (our 2nd aid station person).
Jamie Reichler also helped with various things - a facebook page, promoting the race, marking the course, posting results, etc..; so he might as well be considered another race director.
First place male in the Half was Ian Shultis (23yrs) in 1:54:59, followed by the first masters male Kevin Lockett (51 yrs) in 2:00:08. Alison McNulty (37 yrs) was the first female (and 3rd overall) at 2:02:19. Alison was also first female last year, and beat her own course record by over 2.5 minutes. The first masters female was Jacque Schiffer (51 yrs) for the second year in a row with a time of 2:25:29.
First overall and first male in the 5-Miler was Donald Byfield (26 yrs) with a time of 48:17. First female, and fourth overall was Leanne Hughes-Gilbert (34 yrs) with a time of 55:22. Our 5-miler masters class winners were Christopher Giam (56 yrs) who was second overall at 52:05, and Diana Karron (55 yrs) at 1:22:24.
Thank you all again for participating in the second annual 909 Tramping The Perimeter Trail Races in the Hudson Valley. We will see you all out there again next year. Please also watch for our 909 Last Man Standing Event coming in 2017.
