About

About
The 40-mile individual race to Rainbow Bridge is the main event of the weekend. The route travels from Navajo Mountain High School for 5 ½ miles on dirt road to the North Rainbow Trailhead before beginning the 30 mile round-trip journey to Rainbow Bridge and back. There is also a three-person “tribal challenge” (please contact us if you are interested in that event).

The 10-mile trail race takes place near the trailhead, with a route that takes runners to the rim overlooking Lake Powell and along ancient trails in the canyons leading to the modern-day trailhead.

There is a Kids Run with Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills at 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning at Navajo Mountain High School, followed by an assembly with Mr. Mills and the Building Communities of Hope team. There is a mandatory runner briefing at 4:00 p.m. Friday, followed by dinner (included for runners; $10 for others.)

Contact chuskaman@yahoo.com for more details or with any questions.

Course

The Tribal Challenge and the 40-Mile Rainbow Trail Ultra begin and finish at Navajo Mountain High School on the southern flank of Navajo Mountain. Checkpoints will have energy gels, salty and high carb foods, medical support, communication and some fluids.

Each major checkpoints will include some shelter, sleeping bags/blankets and heat sources. The course is marked with pin flags, some signage and there will be spotters in key places; however, runners must study the course map, attend Friday's runner meeting and be familiar with the route; runners should possess some basic route-finding skills. Runners may choose to include GPS system, personal locator device and/or satellite phone in their personal kit.
