Lake Martin Ultra Fat Ass

30.22925000 -91.91388889

St. Martinville, LA 50K, 5hrs

This Event Took Place Sat. Jan 20, 2018

Event Description

Important:
This is a very small event, mostly intended for the local running community. There is no money or prizes involved.

The Lake Martin Ultra Fat Ass, or LMUFA (colloquially pronounced, "El Muhfa") is a small, somewhat-private, event. If you can access the Facebook link, then you should have no problem registering.
This is a VERY FLAT trail(ish) 5.1 mile loop around Lake Martin. Half of the loop is gravel/dirt road, and the other half is grassy hiking trail. We figure this should result in some really good 50K PR times.

Race starts at 7:00am, January 19th.

Route Description

The loop is 5.1 miles long and can be divided into 2 parts: a gravel/dirt road section and a grassy trail section. Each section is roughly 2.5 miles in length. There will be an ice chest located where it switches from trail to road, and one where it switches back from road to trail. You can leave a drop bag at either location.
Runners will start the loop in one direction, and make the entire loop back to the start. From there, all runners turn around and run their second loop in the reverse direction. Once they reach the start again, they reverse direction again for their third loop. Basically, all "even" loops will be in one direction, and all "odd" loops are in the other direction.
There will be volunteers at the start area, but it's pretty straight-forward: turn around after every loop. :)
There are no other turns or directions to worry about.
The course is very wide and allows for plenty of room to pass and be passed.

Race Rules

No fighting. No being an ass.
Really, the only rule is to have fun, play nice with the other runners, and remember to turn around after each loop.
While we will have some ice chests out on the course, know that the race directors will also be running in this event. So, you should treat this like a self-supported 50K. Bring whatever you need to get you through the day.
In fact, feel free to bring extra, and we will include it in the communal ice chests.
This event is all about having a fun, fast, 50K. We want everyone to have a successful run.

Directions

From Carmel Dr (Hwy 94 that connects Lafayette to Breaux Bridge), turn onto Lake Martin Rd.
Proceed on Lake Martin Rd for about 5 miles. There will be a Very small sign on your left for "Rookery Rd". If you cross a bridge around the 5 mile mark, you've gone too far. :)
Once on Rookery Rd, follow it all the way around the lake (Lake Martin). You'll pass a boat launch area with parking about 2 miles in. Keep going until the gravel road ends (about another 1/2 mile). The parking area at the end of the road is where we will start and end the race.
(if this parking lot fills up, we can park people at the boat launch and shuttle - or jog, to the start).

Refunds

This event is free. Just show up, and maybe even bring some extra food and/or water to help out the other runners.
You're definitely going to get what you pay for. There are no prizes, no bling, no post-race massages (unless you're giving them).
We we Will have, however, is official timing and an official site (UltraSignup) to record the results. So, if you're looking to PR (and this is a good course for it), your results will be online for all the world to see.
