The GBP Winter Trail Series
Like everything else, this year’s Galisteo Basin Preserve Winter Trail Race Series will be different! While many are holding “Virtual Races”, we have decided to keep this tradition going, just with a pandemic flair. You will be required to run the actual course, but you get to pick the date and time.
The beauty of this is you can run alone, with your friends, or with your four legged friends (burros, yep, not forbidden). You can pick a Monday evening or a Sunday morning, we just ask that you pick a day that is not muddy and respect the hours of the preserve (please don’t destroy the trails we are trying to protect). You can run it once or 50 times, but you will only get to submit one of your GPS tracks data for the month. We will not post any standings until the end of each respective races month.
There will be three races in the series:
The Hare - 3.5 and 7 miles December 2020
The Goat - 4 and 8 miles January 2021
The Coyote - 6 and 12 miles February 2021
This season, since you pretty much have a month to complete each race in the series, we have made it easy and you can only register for the series. The cost is $55.00 if you sign up before November 30, 2020 and $65.00 if you sign up the month of December.
We will still offer a series discount to school teams, charity teams, law enforcement/first responder teams and military teams of 4 or more persons. Please email the race director for inquiries.
All profits of the race series will support Commonweal Conservancy in its stewardship activities of the GBP. Last year we raised over $5200.00, so a BIG THANK YOU to everyone that participated last year! The road and trailhead improvements are obvious and they are adding another 5 miles of trails this year.
Individuals who complete all three races (regardless of distance) will receive a series finisher award. We will mail these out to you upon completion of the series so make sure you register with the correct address.
Those who finish in the top 3 male and top 3 female for both the long and short courses of the series will receive a sweet gift and possibly some cash (TBA). The top series finishers will be determined by a point system.
Points will be calculated similar to cross country scoring and each runner is their own “team” for the series. You will receive points based on your place when crossing the finish line for your division (divisions are male and female for both the long and short courses). The runners with the total lowest points for the series in their divisions will place in the top 3.
