About the Windsor Castle 10-Hour
The Windsor Castle 10-Hour is at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA. This is your chance to get in some great summer heat training on a 2.8 mile trail with about 150 ft gain per loop.
Come out and race the course to see how many miles you can get or just enjoy time on your feet and getting some nice miles walking and running. Stay the whole 10 hours or just part of the time.
This is a low-key event, but it is chip timed. There are awards for the top finishers, along with a home-made finisher's medal for all runners. Plus we’ll have bib numbers drawn for runners to win awesome swag like free meals and drinks at a local Taphouse.
Runners are able to set up chairs or tents (no larger than 10x10) close to the trail.
There are no refunds if you cancel your registration. However, if you know you need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible to allow people on the waitlist an opportunity to run. We anticipate being full, with a waitlist.
About the run itself
Morning check in and packet pick up is between 5:30 and 6:45.
Waved race start between 7:00 am and 7:10, with waves starting every 2 minutes with 50 people per wave.
COVID protocols will be in place and provided via the virtual race brief and in an email.
We will have limited aid and runners are strongly encouraged to bring their own. However, we will have water available for runners and limited nutrition items that are typical at an ultra (chips, gummy snacks, candy, granola bars, etc…).
Although the loop is only 2.8 miles, it is June so it’ll be hot and most likely very humid. All runners are strongly encouraged to have a hydration device while running. The trail goes through both shaded areas as well as open spaces.
The loop is 2.8 miles and covers a very easy, navigable trail loop. The trail is a smooth, groomed trail that’s packed dirt with some small, packed gravel in areas, but mostly dirt all the way around. There are two street crossings, however there is very minimal traffic in this area. The course will be marked. It is an open park so there will be others on the course.
Runners are able to set up chairs or tents (no larger than 10x10) close to the trail. There is plenty of space to spread out in the tent area.
Early optional packet pick up. Friday, June 11 at Point 2 in Newport News. 5 pm - 7 pm - get your packet and buy your gear while getting a discount on nutrition. Bonus, yummy food options in the area. 2080 Jefferson Ave #910, Newport News, VA 23606
We will have awards for top miles for the first three women and first three men. Runners must be present to receive their award. These will be handed out immediately after the run ends. We do not ship. If there is a tie in miles, the award will go to the runner who ran the miles the quickest. Those running a marathon, 50k, and 50 miles will also be given a certificate to recognize their mileage efforts.
