-Falcon 50 Race Series
Welcome to the 5th annual running of the Falcon 50, along with the marathon (marathon hike) and heavy marathon (listed as 26mi). Join us and help continue the legacy while discovering how far you are able to push yourself.
The Falcon 50 Race Series, first event run in 2011, takes place on the Air Force Academy Reservation and in the surrounding mountains. It is a scenic and challenging route that will take its participants through some of the most beautiful parts of the Academy grounds and over some of the best kept trails around. All paid entrants will receive a customized race shirt, access to some of the best stocked aid stations in the sport, and cheered on by the most enthusiastic volunteers you could find, every step of the way. All marathon and military heavy finishers will be awarded a medal, ultramarathon finishers under 10 hours and military heavy finishers under 8 hours will receive a Falcon 50 belt buckle.
The ultramarathon is the great equalizer of races. Young, old, seasoned racer, or fresh to the starting blocks... in the end, it will be your determination above all else that gets you to the finish line. The 50 miles of the Falcon 50 Ultra course ensure that this event will be one of the toughest athletic challenges you can undertake, but it will also be one of your most triumphant accomplishments.
If it wasn't tough, then it probably wasn't worth doing.
This is a NON-PROFIT event. Any money left over after the event will be donated to the USO (United Services Organization) or other charities supporting veterans and DoD.
The three events you know and loathe are back; happy training. All events start on Stillman Field of the US Air Force Academy at 0600. The course will remain open until 2000. For safety, all runners must complete before official sunset.
* FALCON 50 ULTRAMARATHON (50 miles)
* FALCON 50 MILITARY HEAVY (26.2 miles with boots, utility uniform, and a 35lb ruck)
* FALCON 50 MARATHON (you can run or hike as the course remains open from 0600 until 2000 hrs) (26.2 miles)
No racer will be prevented from attempting the 50 mile Falcon 50 Ultramarathon course, so long as they meet posted cutoff times. This applies to both Marathon and Military Heavy entrants. However, in order to receive event specific finisher awards, like the Falcon 50 belt buckle, you must have registered for that event.
* Note on military Heavy Division * Boots may be military grade/issued or civilian equivalent. The uniform may be ABU, BDU, ACU, or sister service equivalent combat fatigues. Cover and blouse need not be worn or may be substituted with more functional layers and outer garments.
The ruck must be USAF, Army, or Navy issued with an external frame. Although you can pack any gear, food, or water you like in the ruck, it must also contain 35 pounds of non-natural objects. Ballast will not be provided at race start; please procure your own for the event.
The course has been published to the Falcon 50 Race Series Facebook page.
