The 2017 race start and finish area is located at south parking of Lake Cuyamaca Recreation Area which is located 9 miles southwest of Julian, CA on state Hwy 79. All runners are reminded the 2017 event will start at 6:00am PDT on Friday, June 9, 2017 with the completion cutoff of 32 hours ending at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 10, 2017.
Registration for the 2017 SD 100 will open on January 1, 2017 using Ultrasignup. Applications will be accepted for three days (1/1/2017 to 1/3/2017) at which time we'll conduct a lottery of all qualified applicants to select the 300 official entrants' field. All applicants not selected in the lottery may then register for the ordered waitlist. The entry fee for the 2017 race will remain at $265 plus the Ultrasignup fee which is approximately an additional $18.
Qualification to Apply
As a requisite to apply, applicants must have completed a 50 mile ultra race in under 13 hours between the dates of January 1, 2015 to January 1, 2017. Applicants who have completed a 100K or a 100 mile within the time limits of that race within the last two years are also qualified to enter. Applicants are also required to perform 6 hours of trail maintenance as a volunteer or 6 hours of volunteer service at another ultra or other community service from between June 1, 2016 to June 1, 2017. Those who do not complete the volunteer requirement will not be allowed to participate in the race.
The San Diego 100 course is a 90% single track mountain course which covers four recreational areas in the east county mountains of San Diego. The 2017 start and finish area are located at the south parking area of Lake Cuyamaca Recreational Area. The course includes trails traversing sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), Noble Canyon, the Cuyamaca and the Anza Borrego State Parks, and Mt Laguna Recreational Areas. A very challenging course with approximately 26,000' feet of total elevation change (13k climb & 13k descent) with a 32 hour time limit. Selected runners must agree to the strictly enforced limit of one crew vehicle which includes any pacers that are helping the runner.
The 2017 event will again have a Solo Division to recognize all runners who opt to run the entire race without the support of a crew or pacers with spectators only allowed to meet Solo runners at the start and finish line. All finishing Solo runners will receive special awards to include a unique belt buckle. Solo runners will have to rely on their drop bags and the aid stations for all support. Solo runners are allowed to run with other registered runners but must rely on themselves (drop bags) and aid station volunteers throughout the entire race.
