Miwok 100K - May 7, 2016
Brrrrr - The 21st Miwok 100K took place on Saturday, May 7. There were wild swings in the weather predictions and by mid-morning participants were running through chilly gusts of rain that took a higher number of them into DNF territory. The clouds cleared a bit by afternoon and the finish area was busy with spectators, runners, volunteers, and plenty of good food and drink to go around.
Although conditions knocked a higher rate of runners out, we saw age group records fall and many finishers reported PRs.
Look for a complete race report on the Miwok website by May 28th.
Participants were thrilled to receive a Salomon race shirt, a very cool pair of Miwok 100K race sleeves, the 62.2 car sticker, and other great goodies. We again received excellent reviews of Tailwind at all the aid stations. The top two men and women at the 2016 Miwok 100K won automatic entry into the 2016 Vermont 100-mile Endurance Run in July.
The 2017 Miwok 100K will take place on Saturday, May 6. The website will be updated by October 15th with 2017 course and sponsor data. Registration dates - ~December 1 - 10, 2017 - will be confirmed on the website in October.
The Miwok 100K course is one of the most iconic in the country, with spectacular views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge, Pirates' Cove, Mt. Tamalpais, Muir Beach, the Redwoods, and the Point Reyes National Seashore. The course follows fire roads and single-track trails with less than one mile of paved road. You'll get your hills in, with almost 12,000' elevation gain. Please see the website - www.miwok100k.com - for full details.
Local time: 9:18 AM
The race starts and finishes in the town of Stinson Beach and many racers are able to stroll to the start (make your reservations early) and take a dip in the ocean afterwards.
