Intro

There’s no race like Gnome! Come chill with the McHenry (County) Ultra Running Dudes and Dudettes, MUDD, on a VERY CHALLENGING, TRIPLE DIAMOND rated, fun and frosty run in Crystal Lake on January 19th, 2016. The Frozen Gnome's beautiful single-track course will take runners through the winter wonderland of Veteran Acres and Sterne’s Woods. Folks may choose either the 50K ultra run or the 10K race for speedsters. Gnome doubt about it, both courses will be tough.

The course is a 10k loop that will be repeated 5 times by the 50k runners. Enjoy butt slide hill, hot food, coffee, heat, and volunteers at the Gnome Depot Aid Station. The Frozen Gnome is everything you could wish for from a winter wonderland race!

The course is mainly single track trails on a lot of hills. It's a 10k loop that will be repeated 5 times for the 50k runners. There is one main aid station "The Gnome Depot" at the start-finish line that will be stocked with hot soup, homemade goodies, coffee and drinks. There is one unmanned aid station with sports drink on the course. The course is set up so spectators/crew will be able to see the runners quite a few times.

10k and 50k start 7:45 am
The cutoff for both races is 8 1/2 hours which will be 4:15 pm. We decided to give runners an extra 30 minutes of fun this year to complete the course.

Frozen Gnome Testimonial

'I just wanted to say thank you very much for putting on such an awesome event today! I had found it ...(online)... and my friend, John D'Agostino gave me a little more info, and said how cool all of the trail runs and participants are. He was so right! This was my first, and I loved it! I only did the 10K, but the course was full of beautiful scenery, was well marked and challenging. Every single volunteer was incredibly helpful and friendly. The camaraderie amongst the runners is like nothing I've experienced before. The emails beforehand with info were thorough and a big help. The weather updates and tips too were great! Thank you for all you did to prepare for today and make it such a smooth running event. Hopefully you all stayed warm! ~Michelle Mankiewicz, 2015 participant
