Description
Scenic summer trail runs in the Cascade Mountains of south central Washington near Yakima, WA (9th year). This out and back, single track trail, is tough and rugged with over 6,000 ft of elevation gain for the 50K. Don’t underestimate this one… Shorter 12K & 25 K options are available which follow the same route, all starting at Tree Phones Campground on the Ahtanum State Forest. There are views of Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams, open ridges and forested stretches, rocky and smooth forest trails. The higher mountain elevation keeps the temperatures down, but it can still get very warm by mid day. There will be aid stations with water, electrolyte drinks, and food at approximately 12K, 24K & 36K; nevertheless, runners are also advised to carry water and snacks with them. All 50K runners must pass the 36K checkpoint by 1 p.m. The 50K is an excellent training run for the White River 50 miler.

Exit 36 Valley Mall Blvd at Union Gap near Yakima, WA. Go .3 mile on E.
Valley Mall Blvd to Main St. & turn left, go .5 mile to W. Ahtanum Rd.
& turn right, stay on W. Ahtanum Rd. for 19 miles to Tampico, WA & take
right fork in road onto N.F. Ahtanum Rd. until end of pavement (about 9.5
miles), continue straight onto M.F. Ahtanum Rd (A2000 Rd.) for 6 more miles to
Tree Phones Campground. (Approx.
35 miles to Tree Phones from I-82.)
