TELL YOUR CREWS TO BRING A CHAIR TO RELAX.

There is a slight detour through Big Basin as the STTS trail has a slight washout. The maps will not show the slightly modified route. You will follow the excellently marked course as usual.

From Big Basin Park site.
CLOSED - Approximately half a mile of Skyline to Sea Trail is closed between Middle Ridge Road Sunset Connector Trail.

Skyline to the Sea Detour Directions:
Thanks to our amazing and bountiful winter, the closed section of Skyline to the Sea Trail can by bypassed by using the Sunset Connector Trail between Sunset Trail and Skyline to the Sea Trail. Yes, this will shorten the course by about a half mile. Technically, the course has never been a true marathon distance because the race ends at the horse camp. We find it too cruel to have you run 4/10's of a mile to the HWY 1 gate and back on asphalt.

10/1/17 Recon trail Run. Today, I received word from one of our valued runners and volunteers, Harrison Blackwood. Here are some excerpts from his email.
- No Poison Oak on trail - only OFF TRAIL
- No wasps or bees.
- From start to mile 13.5 trail is as expected. Some roots and rocks to watch out for, and a couple of tree limbs down, easy to step over.
- Mile 7-8 has plenty of leaves, branches and tree needles on it. Be careful for hidden roots and rocks.
- Mile 11-12 has many rock/boulders, but manageable.
- Detour: Sunset Trail is a bit rooty (exposed roots) from Dool to Middle Ridge.
- Detour Sunset Connector Trail has a tricky turn and drop down at the Skyline to the Sea trail blockage.
- Some of the small bridges (basically boards across rocks) feel a bit worn. They are secure just a feeling.

Skyline to the Sea

SATURDAY RACES ARE CLOSED. SUNDAY EVENTS ARE STILL OPEN FOR REGISTRATION.

Emails with all the important shuttle and start information to follow the weekend before event.

This is the original Skyline to the Sea Trail Run!  The trail begins at Saratoga Gap and descends from the Santa Cruz Mountains to the deep blue Pacific Ocean.  Along the way you will encounter amazing views of the Monterey Bay, coastal and redwood forests, lush ferns, chaparral, exquisite sandstone formations, crystal clear waterfalls and the beauty of California wildflowers. This gorgeous venue is not to be missed.

SUNDAY EVENTS, Half Marathon & 15K are open for registration. The Half Marathon is similar to Saturday's events in that it also has a different start point (near Saratoga Gap) than finish line. The 15K starts and finishes in Big Basin State Park. and
