Billy Goat's 1/2 Marathon and Hill Climb

Corona , CA 13.1 Miles

This Event Took Place Sat. Jun 21, 2014

Description

The Billy Goat's 1/2 Marathon is an out and back on the Indian Truck Trail in the Cleveland National Forest. There is only one hill and the truck trail is wide, well graded, and has good footing.  The scenery is great IF you can look up on the assent and dare to look up during the descent.  This is a great introduction to racing on Saddleback...  We are limited to 200 runners.

The post race lunch is included in the entry fee. Yes, we serve veggie burgers too.

Registration 7:00am  Start 8:00am  See website for detailed directions to the venue...

Old Goat 70th Birthday

We will be celebrating The Old Goats 70th Birthday. He's actually only 30 but he really likes parties. Please, no presents other than your presence... After the race and party are over we will retire to Tom's Farm to continue the revelry... and listen to some music by the Lagoon.

Directions to Start

If you are relying on your GPS to get you to the start you WILL be disappointed. The following directions will get you to the start IF you follow them :The trail head is located approx a 1.3 miles from the intersection of Indian Truck Trail and US15 (seven miles North of Lake Elsinore). Upon leaving the interstate head west. Take the first right onto Campbell Ranch Road. At the next intersection turn left onto Mayhew Canyon and in another.3 miles left onto Santiago Canyon. Follow Santiago .4 miles through a subdivision (currently under construction) until arriving at a narrow dirt road on the right... There is a sign (sometimes) identifying it as access to the Cleveland National Forest. This is the Indian Truck Trail. Turn onto the road and look for places to park on the right hand side only. There is a Korean Religious Retreat Center located about a half mile up the road. DO NOT PARK THERE… A Forest Adventure Pass is required ($5 a day $30 a year) everywhere else. The start line is about 300 yards from the forest entrance. Unfortunately, the start area has been used as a dump in the past, but like most lazy jerks, the miscreants didn’t venture far from the entrance. For those unfamiliar with the area, Indian Truck is one off-ramp south of Temescal Canyon and Tom’s Farm - an excellent place to eat, relax, or just stroll around the grounds… running attire is acceptable! Glen Ivy Spa is another great attraction where one can be pampered (for a price) like royalty. The warm sulfur and mud baths are great on aching bones. Not to confused with Glenn Eden (naturist resort) where you can also relax as long as you take off the running attire and anything else you might be wearing… bring Sun Block.
