1st Annual Black Butte Challenge
Join us for the first annual Black Butte Challenge - 10K Run to the Top of Black Butte. Proceeds from the race support Sisters Kiwanis Club.
COURSE
The course is an exhilarating 10K one-way run to the top of Black Butte a stratovolcano 5.5 miles west of Sisters, Oregon in Deschutes National Forest--a more than 3,200' change in elevation. Take in gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains--Mt. Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, The Sisters, and Mt. Washington as you scale the hillside wrapped around the Butte. The trail starts out nearly level/slightly downhill for the first two miles then climbs steadily for the last four miles with a small level section near the Aid Station at 4.2 miles. It is very runnable trail with some small technical sections (roots, small boulders).
DESCRIPTION
The race Start is near the intersection of Highway 20 and the 14 Road to Camp Sherman. Parking and a shuttle to the Start and back will be provided from a signed parking lot on Black Butte Ranch where Registration (starts @ 7 AM) and coffee and restrooms are available.
