About

Sometimes we run to challenge ourselves, to see how far or how fast; this run was not created to challenge but to connect with why we run, to live in the moment and to appreciate the beauty of the trail. I hope to create an opportunity for trail-runners to gather and celebrate the notion that we live on the most beautiful archipelago of islands on the east coast.

Your run will alternate between sandy shell road, single-track trail and beach. The dirt road is known as Grand Avenue and is draped with a canopy of live oaks and spanish moss. The single-track trail is cut through the maritime forest carpeted with green palmetto. The beach is wide, white, hard-packed and unspoiled. You will also run the ruins of Dungeness and see the wild horses of the Spanish explorers. You might also see deer, turkey, raccoon, hogs, snakes, armadillo, dolphin and manatee. The Indians lived on the Island, the Spanish Conquistadors stopped for a visit, the Revolutionary War Hero General Nathanael Greene owned it, the Carnegies bought it and I hope you love it! It is absolutely gorgeous! The water will be warm and hopefully the sun shines on our day!
